I’ve long enjoyed reading books set in Great Britain if only to learn how different British culture is from US culture. The Cat Who Came in from the Cold by Alexa Milne is just such a book. The eponymous cat in the title is Thom Katt, an aspiring performer, and his love interest is Tyler, an ecologist. Our heroes have a meet-cute and the rest of the book is about the problems of having a relationship when one person has a huge secret. The early days for the pair had Thom in a panto, which does not exist in the US. Google fails to capture the attraction of such a show. Tyler is finalizing his dissertation on bees and once again British graduate school differs from its US counterpart. I should know, as I have a PhD myself. I liked seeing Thom and Tyler interact with their friends and families because it seemed so realistic. Another reason I liked the book so much is that I am an ailurophile and found myself saying “My cat does that!”
