I’ve been reading vampire books since the beginning of this millennium and thought there was little new anyone could add to the subgenre. AE Lister in Bloodlines proved me wrong. I liked that they threw out most of the old myths about vampires, including sunlight being fatal, or garlic repelling them. They did keep the usual process for creating a new vampire and added that new vampires have a glowing aura around them. It is this aura that impels four-hundred-year-old vampire Benjamin to bring home new vamp Clove where Ben’s source of blood lived with him. I was impressed with how the author was able to depict the growth of Clove from a ravenous new vampire into one who matured in a short period of time. Sage, too, had some emotional depth. It was fun to see the old vampire be surprised by both Clove and Sage. And the ending felt appropriate. I received a copy of Bloodlines by AE Lister via Pride Publishing and I am leaving a review voluntarily.

Grittier than I expected, with lots of blood and truly sexy scenes. These three men were perfect together, and while I was nervous for Sage--how on earth can he survive two vampires?--he is stronger than I expected. Great story!

Benjamin and Sage are an established couple. Vampire and human slave/servant/thrall/lover. Enter Clove, a newly turned vampire. Out of control, killing indiscriminately. Benjamin is Clove’s professor trying to give the new vamp advice. When he meets Sage he wants them immediately. Benjamin make a deal he truly hopes he won’t regret. This story was a bit dark. There were no simple sips of blood taken from unsuspecting victims. Full on draining occurred. With absolutely no remorse. That said, it was also one of the hottest vampire books I’ve read. While Benjamin definitely had the physical control in the group, Sage held the real power. They were Benjamin’s heart and Clove’s obsession. I like this author very much. Their books range from cowboys in the old west to vampires living in penthouses. Always well written and delightful to read. This review is based on amazon review scale. Not sure how to translate that here.
