I do not want to give away to many spoilers so I will leave this review with… I loved what this author did with this story and these characters in this book. I also thought that this world that S.A. McAuley created was amazing and gritty! Merg and Armise both being highly trained killers each on a different side of this border war.
All together I 100% loved this book and would definitely recommend it!

Macky: I've just fallen head over heels once again for this brilliant engrossing series and its two mind blowing leads, Merq Grayson and Armise Darcan. God those guys have just put me through the emotional mill big time! But I absolutely loved every gut punching minute of it!
Monique: OMG! I love them so much, and second time round they were even better. Honestly I think they are my most favourite pairing ever! All enhanced by a compelling plot which spans years. It’s stunningly executed and each piece of the puzzle brings the whole picture together… It’s gripping and fascinating, and definitely white-knuckle-ride-worthy… but also thought provoking.

Wowwwwww. This review is impossible to write. How can I possibly get across to you the utter brilliance of the world that S.A. McAuley has built here? Or the amazement and sometimes utter speechlessness I felt while reading? How can I possibly describe the complexity of the characters of Merq and Armise? So much action. So much intrigue. So many heart-stopping situations and incredible characters. I can’t describe how amazing they are – and, I can’t get enough of this story. Read more of this review here.

McAuley has created a really fascinating relationship and an interesting dystopian world here and I can’t wait to see where things go from here. I definitely recommend this one and can’t wait for more.

Now that this book has been rereleased, I found it even more enjoyable and fascinating than the original edition I read years ago. The elimination of all the flashbacks alone contributed hugely to my enjoyment. So did the additional scenes, and the glossary and additional information in the back helped me keep track of “who is who” in this scary future version of Earth. Despite all these clarifications, the sense of mystery, impending doom, and curiosity have not been eliminated at all. All they have done is remove some unnecessary lack of clarity with the effect that I liked this novel even more this second time around. This story is gritty, powerful, and will grab your attention and not let go once you start reading.
